20th Anniversary Year

The Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture opened on November 3, 2005, and will thus celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. For this reason we designated the period from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026 as our “20th Anniversary Year”, during which various commemorative projects will take place.
20th Anniversary Logo Confirmed!
20 years have passed since the Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture was born as “a museum that keeps evolving”.
During all these years we kept growing and evolving thanks to the support of many people, first of all the residents of Nagasaki Prefecture and Nagasaki City.
From now on, too, we will continue to protect precious cultural assets and pass them down to the next generations, share the charm of Nagasaki’s diverse history and culture, and connect it to the future.
Design Concept: Connection
- Nagasaki’s connection to the world through the Nanban trade, Dejima, and other centers of exchange, during the period, starting in the 17th century, when the city flourished as a base for administration, justice, diplomacy, and trade
- Our connection to the local community in our role as a core museum in Nagasaki Prefecture
- Our connection to precious cultural assets to protect them and pass them down to future generations

The logo is based on the faces of the “Southern Barbarians” (Europeans) depicted in the folding screen “Westerners Arrive in Japan”, which is part of our Museum’s collection. The character’s eyes and moustache are made up by the “20” and “th” of 20th anniversary.
For the next year, this logo will be featured on PR materials and original goods created by the Museum.
